Why your donation is important - A message from Katie

Katie’s world was turned upside-down when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2018. In September 2018 she was able to have a stay at an OTIS retreat thanks to generous donors. 

"Myself and my sons cannot thank the OTIS staff, property owners and supporters enough for paying it forward.

When I was really unwell it was the most simple things that became hard; looking after my son, preparing meals, doing the housework, paying the bills (while no longer working) during chemo was rough and really hard work.

Since my diagnosis and treatment, I hadn’t been able to relax or rest at all, I was both physically and mentally exhausted, right up to the front gate of the OTIS property. Once we were inside it all changed, the heaviness and worry almost immediately began to leave. 

For the first time in what seemed like forever I smiled and worried about nothing. 

Our stay was much more than a break or holiday, it gave me a peace of mind that I’d lost and I dread to think of my mental state had I not been offered the opportunity to stay with OTIS. I returned from my stay not only refreshed but with a totally different outlook.

Please know what a genuine difference The Otis Foundation has made, and continues to make to my sons & I during such difficult times. It isn’t an exaggeration to say it changed our lives".
