The OTIS Foundation has Tasmania as a target for its newest breast cancer retreat.
The OTIS Foundation offers over 3,500 nights each year for families experiencing breast cancer to spend time together with the aim of reducing the psychological impacts of the disease. Last financial year the charity was able to offer stays to over 800 families across Australia to allow them space and time to create memories away from the daily stresses that go alongside the disease. The foundation now aims to grow the property network to serve the more than 18,000 people diagnosed in Australia each year.
The OTIS Foundation’s Bookings Coordinator, Rain Millar, said that the foundation aims to establish a property within the state to support any Tasmanian who has been diagnosed with breast cancer,
We know that on average one in eight Tasmanian women will face a breast cancer diagnosis in their lifetime and we want to ensure that these women have access to an OTIS Foundation property that is both at no cost and within a reasonable distance of their home.
“The majority of OTIS properties are generously donated by individuals who provide access to their holiday home or second property for periods throughout the year when it would otherwise sit vacant. We are now calling on generous Tasmanians who have a suitable property to contact us about donating time at their property.” Ms Millar added.
The OTIS Foundation was established in Central Victoria more than 15 years ago and now offers access to properties in every state of Australia, except Tasmania. Tasmanians are currently able to access OTIS properties in Victoria.
