In late 2018, a past recipient of an Otis retreat stay visited the Otis office with her husband and two young daughters and said “we have an idea, and we want Otis involved from day one”. Julianne and Carl Baldock had come up with a brilliant idea to produce and sell weather-proof liners for trailers, and were going to donate $5 from every sale to The Otis Foundation once launched.
Two years later that idea has become reality with the launch of their product – the Kurraca Trailer Liner.
Why did they choose to support Otis?
In May of 2016, Julianne received the devastating news that she had breast cancer. At the time, she was 30 weeks pregnant with her second child, and it turned her life upside down. After an exhausting 10 months of chemo, surgery and radiation Julianne was finally given the all clear and could get her life back to a ‘new normal’ with medication to suppress estrogen production.
To celebrate the finish of treatment, Julianne was able to spend a weekend away at an Otis retreat (Kez’s Hideaway in Redesdale) with close friends, giving her time to play board games and have a break away when she needed it most. “It was a weekend that we will cherish forever and a break away from the world that we needed” – Julianne.
Now that Julianne is cancer-free, herself and Carl are more determined than ever to give back to those that helped her through the tough times, including The Otis Foundation. Throughout the process of developing the Kurraca brand and the trailer liner product, Julianne and Carl visited the Otis office regularly, insisting they wanted the association with Otis to be known to everyone who purchases. Sticking to their original goal, they have committed to donating $5 from the sale of every trailer liner, with hopes of a broader range of products with similar contributions to Otis.
Julianne and Carl are committed to helping to provide an ongoing source of income with regular donation in order to help others in the same way that Otis helped them. What an incredible way to give back.
