Iluka cottage assists those experiencing breast cancer

Thursday, July 19, 2018

Families dealing with the challenges of breast cancer can now access retreat accommodation in Iluka, available at no cost, thanks to The OTIS Foundation.

The one-bedroom cottage is part of a national network of properties made available by The OTIS Foundation to help reduce the psychological impact that goes alongside this serious disease.

The OTIS Foundation’s Property Manager, Lynda Davis, said that the charity aims to provide access to properties that allow guests to relax, reconnect and create special memories with those closest to them. “We have been actively seeking additional West Australian properties since we launched in the state late last year to enable us to provide more stays to more people, including the dozen women currently on our system waiting for a stay.” Ms Davis said.

Catherine McGee owns the Iluka property along with her husband, Paul, known as ‘Wee Cathie’s Cottage’. She says that it is their hope that guests will have a nice, relaxing break away together, “We are fortunate enough to be in a position to help by sharing our little cottage and I am so pleased to be able to give back to people in need. ” said Ms McGee.

We want people to share the feeling that we are looking out for each other.

“Having worked for many years as a nurse and spending some of that time in the oncology department, I am really excited that there are organisations like The OTIS Foundation – I think it’s a great thing.” Ms McGee added.

“It is thanks to the generosity of people like Catherine and Paul that we are able to offer this service, they kindly offer time at their property to our guests. We are also fortunate enough to also have the support from funding partners such as the Dry July Foundation to assist our WA expansion. ” Ms Davis added.

The OTIS Foundation provides retreat accommodation at no cost to anyone who has experienced a breast cancer diagnosis. To find out more about donating time at a property, visit our Donate Time at a Property page.
